OKLAHOMA CITY — Del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre es el Mes de la Herencia Hispana. Para celebrar las contribuciones significativas de los latinos en el estado de Oklahoma, la Oficina Multicultural de OHS está planeando "¡Presente en Oklahoma!", un panel de discusión enfocado en la historia hispana, que tendrá lugar en el Centro de Historia de Oklahoma el martes 27 de septiembre, de 11 a.m. a 1 p.m. 

"El panel estará compuesto por historiadores, académicos y representantes de familias hispanas con profundas raíces en Oklahoma. Durante este evento, los oradores compartirán la compleja historia del desarrollo cultural hispano en el estado, desde la década de 1840 hasta la inmigración más reciente al estado", dijo Saidy Orellana-Oklahoma Historical Society.

Los panelistas programados incluyen a Jerry Medina, la Dra. Regina López, Arturo Alonso-Sandoval y Francisco Treviño. Miriam Campos, Jerry Medina y la Dra. Regina López sirven en la Junta de la Oficina Multicultural de Amigos de la OHS. Campos es el vicepresidente y administrador de la comunidad de Chase Bank en Oklahoma City. Medina es el presidente y propietario de Medina Exploration Inc., un servicio de exploración de petróleo y gas. López es profesor en el departamento de educación de la Universidad de Oklahoma Central. Alonso-Sandoval fue elegido recientemente para la Cámara de Representantes de Oklahoma por el Distrito 89 en el sur de Oklahoma City y será uno de los funcionarios electos más jóvenes en la legislatura. Treviño es el ex director ejecutivo de la Cámara de Comercio Hispana del Gran Tulsa y el actual director ejecutivo de la Casa de la Cultura de Tulsa.

“Otras actividades incluirán un desfile de moda de versión corta coordinado por Yimma Kernes de Panamá, y presentaciones sobre Charros y Escaramuzas en Oklahoma de Charrería El Roble. Se discutirán varios temas, como los mexicanos en Oklahoma, los hispanos y latinos en Oklahoma, y la economía en español.  Supermercados Morelos ofrecerá un almuerzo ligero gratuito para 100 asistentes por orden de llegada” añadio Orellana

El evento se llevará a cabo en el Centro de Historia de Oklahoma, ubicado en 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive en Oklahoma City. El evento es patrocinado por Supermercados Morelos.

OKLAHOMA CITY — September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic American Heritage Month. To celebrate the significant contributions of Latinos in the state of Oklahoma, the OHS Multicultural Office is planning “Presente in Oklahoma!,” a panel discussion focusing on Hispanic history, which will take place at the Oklahoma History Center on Tuesday, September 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“The panel will consist of historians, scholars and representatives from Hispanic families with deep roots in Oklahoma. During this event, speakers will share the complex history of Hispanic cultural development in the state, from the 1840s to more recent immigration to the state” said Saidy Orellana-Oklahoma Historical Society.

“The scheduled panelists include Jerry Medina, Dr. Regina Lopez, Arturo Alonso-Sandoval and Francisco Trevino. Miriam Campos, Jerry Medina, and Dr. Regina Lopez all serve on the Friends of the OHS Multicultural Office Board. Campos is the vice president, community manager for Chase Bank in Oklahoma City. She also serves on many other boards, including the Latino Community Development Agency. Medina is the president and owner of Medina Exploration Inc., an oil and gas exploration service. Lopez is a professor in the education department of the University of Central Oklahoma. Alonso-Sandoval was recently elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives from District 89 in south Oklahoma City, and will be one of the youngest elected officials in the legislature. Trevino is the former executive director of the Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the present executive director of Tulsa’s Casa de la Cultura.

“Other activities will include a short-version fashion show coordinated by Yimma Kernes from Panama, and presentations about Charros and Escaramuzas in Oklahoma from Charrería El Roble. Several topics will be discussed, such as Mexicans in Oklahoma, Hispanics and Latinos in Oklahoma, and economics in Español. Supermercados Morelos will provide a free, light lunch for 100 attendees on a first-come, first-served basis” said Orellana

The event will be held at the Oklahoma History Center, located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive in Oklahoma City.The event is sponsored by Supermercados Morelos.
