INDUSTRIA DE LA CONSTRUCCIÓN REACCIONAN A LAS PROPUESTAS DE LA ADMINISTRACIÓN BIDEN

“La Asociación de la Construcción pide que se terminen los aranceles sobre la madera, el acero y el aluminio para ofrecer un alivio rápido en lugar de imponer nuevas restricciones a los acuerdos de contratación, capacitación y trabajo”

El director ejecutivo de Associated General Contractors of America, Stephen E. Sandherr, emitió la siguiente declaración en reacción al anuncio de hoy por parte de la Casa Blanca de las acciones que tomará para abordar las interrupciones de la cadena de suministro:

"La industria de la construcción está experimentando problemas generalizados y crecientes con el costo y el suministro de materiales. Estos desafíos harán que sea más costoso y difícil alcanzar los objetivos de la administración en materia de infraestructura, energía renovable y vivienda asequible.

"El presidente podría proporcionar un alivio inmediato de los altos precios de la madera, el acero y el aluminio mediante la eliminación de aranceles y cuotas perjudiciales. Lamentablemente, las recomendaciones del Presidente ignoran ese enfoque rápido y eficaz.

"En cambio, estas propuestas limitarían la capacidad de los trabajadores y los empleadores para llenar los puestos de construcción necesarios. La imposición de porcentajes de contratación obligatorios de ciertas localidades y programas de capacitación, el dictado de acuerdos laborales inflexibles y el establecimiento de tasas salariales artificialmente altas disminuirán el número de empresas y trabajadores disponibles para llevar a cabo infraestructura vital y otros programas de construcción".

“Construction Association Calls for End to Tariffs on Lumber, Steel and Aluminum in Order to Deliver Prompt Relief Instead of Imposing New Restrictions on Hiring, Training, and Work Agreements.”

The chief executive officer of the Associated General Contractors of America, Stephen E. Sandherr, issued the following statement in reaction to the announcement today by the White House of actions it will take to address supply-chain disruptions:

“The construction industry is experiencing widespread and growing problems with the cost and supply of materials. These challenges will make it more costly and difficult to achieve the administration’s goals for infrastructure, renewable energy, and affordable housing.

“The President could provide immediate relief from soaring prices for lumber, steel and aluminum by removing harmful tariffs and quotas. Unfortunately, the President’s recommendations ignore that quick and effective approach.

“Instead, these proposals would limit the ability of workers and employers to fill needed construction positions. Imposing mandated hiring percentages from certain localities and training programs, dictating inflexible labor agreements, and setting artificially high pay rates will diminish the number of firms and workers available to carry out vital infrastructure and other construction programs.”
