Oklahoma City.- El Centro de Servicio para Medicare Y Medicaid (CMS) están mandando una nueva tarjeta de Medicare que contiene un Nuevo Número en la tarjeta que no incluirá el número del seguro social de la persona. Porqué llegará una nueva tarjeta y cuáles son los cambios?
“El único cambio es que se ha removido el n’umero de Seguro Social de la tarjeta de Medicare. La razón es porque en el pasado, estafadores han usado el número del Medicare no solo para hacer reclamos médicos falsas, pero también para tener acceso a otras cuentas personales tales como las cuentas de banco, de ahorro y para habrir cuentas de crédito. Removiendo el número del seguro social de la tarjeta de Medicare debería dramaticamente reducir el robo de identidad personal a nuestros ancianos. O a cualquier persona con Medicare.
Quiénes han sido mayormente estafados?
“Los artistas estáfadores estan alcanzando a las personas mayores, anunciandose como representantes de Medicare y pidiendoles el número del seguro social para mandarles una tarjeta de Medicare nueva. En otros casos, ellos le dicen a nuestros ancianos que hay un pago por la nueva tarjeta pidiendoles el numero de su cuenta del banco, y así el cobre saldrá directamente de la cuenta bancaria para su major conveniencia.
Qué mensaje les darias a las personas de la tercera edad y a todos los que tienen una tarjeta de Medicare?
“Es importante dicirle a nuestros ancianos que no se desesperen! Ellos podrán seguir usando su tarjeta vieja de medicare cuando van al doctor a la clinica, o a hacerse algún examen médico, la tarjeta vieja será aceptada por todo el año del 2019, y si ya tienen la nueva tarjeta, de cualquier forma estará bien; ya pueden usarla.
Tenemos alrededor de 58 millones de beneficiarios del Medicare, enviar tantas tarjetas nuevas de Medicare se tomará un buen tiempo. Quizás su vecino o amigo reciba la nueva tarjeta antes que usted, pero no se preocupe!! Su doctor o hospital puede seguir proveyendole los servicios médicos que usted necesita, y mandarle la cuenta a Medicare hasta diciembre del 2019.

“Los residentes del estado de Oklahoma deben de estar recibiendo su nueva tarjeta a finales de éste mes. Cuando la nueva tarjeta le llegue, debe destruir la tarjeta vieja.
Solo asegurese que Medicare tiene su direccion correcta. Sobre todo si se ha cambiado de direccion recientemente. Si ha sido así, notifique al seguro social de su nueva dirección o al Medicare.”

Oklahomans Should Be On Alert as New Medicare Cards Arrive

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma’s 675,000 residents on Medicare will get new, more secure cards starting this month. The card will have a new Medicare number that’s unique to each person instead of the person’s Social Security Number.
“The change to a new Medicare Number will help protect citizens from identity theft and fraud,” Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak said. “But with these new security measures comes an opportunity for scammers to take advantage of unsuspecting Medicare recipients. We want everyone to be aware.”
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has already spotted several scams involving the new cards. Medicare beneficiaries should know the following:

• Do NOT pay for a new Medicare card. They are free. Never give your Social Security Number, bank account number or cash to anyone who says they need it in order to receive the new Medicare card. Medicare recipients do not need to do anything to get a new card. They are automatically mailed out.
• Do NOT give your Medicare Number to people you don’t know. Some scammers call pretending to be from Medicare, but Medicare—or someone representing Medicare—will never ask for personal information to get a new Medicare card. Only share your Medicare Number with doctors or trusted people in the community who work with Medicare.
• Don’t let anyone trick you into believing your Medicare benefits will be canceled unless you give them your Medicare Number. If someone threatens to cancel your health benefits if you don’t share your Medicare Number, hang up and report the caller to 1-800-MEDICARE.
• Destroy your old Medicare card. Once you get your new Medicare card, destroy your old Medicare card and start using your new one right away. Don’t just throw the old card away—shred it or cut it into small pieces.

Mailing new Medicare cards to millions of Americans takes time. Cards may arrive at different times for a family member or friend. Recipients may check the status of their new card at Medicare.gov/NewCard.
If you have questions or need help with your new card, call the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Medicare Assistance Program at 800-763-2828.
