Durante las últimas dos semanas, he tenido la oportunidad de compartir tiempo con los líderes comunitarios y empresariales de nuestra zona. Tuve el honor de tomar juramento a la nueva junta directiva de la Cámara de Comercio del Área de Choctaw. También asistí al banquete anual de la Cámara de Comercio de Midwest City, que reunió a empleadores, líderes cívicos y voluntarios que contribuyen al crecimiento económico de nuestra región. Estos eventos son un importante recordatorio de que las comunidades sólidas dependen de un liderazgo local comprometido.

En el Capitolio, el ritmo de trabajo se ha mantenido constante a medida que avanzamos en el proceso legislativo antes del inicio de la sesión. Los miembros de la Cámara de Representantes presentaron un total de 1578 proyectos de ley y 50 resoluciones conjuntas. Según el Secretario de la Cámara, los legisladores presentaron finalmente 1928 proyectos de ley, 29 resoluciones conjuntas, tres resoluciones y dos resoluciones concurrentes antes de la fecha límite de 2025. De estas, más de 1600 medidas de la Cámara de Representantes siguen siendo elegibles para su consideración durante la sesión legislativa de 2026. Las resoluciones conjuntas pueden presentarse en cualquier momento durante la sesión.

Local Leadership

As the Capitol shifts from bill filing to decision-making, the past few weeks have highlighted both the local leadership and legislative activity shaping Oklahoma’s future.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the opportunity to spend time with our community and business leaders across our area. I was honored to administer the oath of office to the new board of directors for the Choctaw Area Chamber of Commerce. I also attended the Midwest City Chamber’s annual banquet, which brought together employers, civic leaders, and volunteers who help drive economic growth in our region. These events are important reminders that strong communities depend on engaged local leadership.

At the Capitol, the pace of work has remained steady as we move deeper into the legislative process before the session begins. House members filed a total of 1,578 House bills and 50 House joint resolutions. According to the Clerk of the House, lawmakers ultimately filed 1,928 House bills, 29 House joint resolutions, three House resolutions, and two-House concurrent resolutions before the 2025 deadline. Of those, more than 1,600 House measures remain eligible for consideration during the 2026 legislative session. Joint resolutions may be filed at any point during session.

Following the filing deadline, the House floor leadership team assigned bills to standing committees. These committees will now determine which measures will receive hearings and further consideration. This is a critical stage in the process, as it allows lawmakers to closely review proposals, hear testimony and evaluate potential impacts before legislation advances.

This week also brings the "Big Six" to the House. These are the budget presentations from the state’s largest agencies. These include the Oklahoma State Department of Education, the Office of Management and Enterprise Services, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and the Oklahoma Health Care Authority.

In these meetings, the agencies present their budget requests for Fiscal Year 2027. Their presentations help lawmakers better understand how funds are being used and where needs may exist. It is important to remember that these presentations are requested. The Legislature will ultimately decide how to balance priorities and finalize the state budget before the end of session.

State of the State is also right around the corner on Feb. 2, and this officially starts the Second Regular Session of the 60th Legislature. As session is fast approaching, please know that I work for you and I am always here to listen.
