OKCPS Nombra NUEVE FINALISTAS PARA MAESTRO DEL AÑO

OKLAHOMA CITY .-La Fundación para Escuelas Públicas de Oklahoma City y las Escuelas Públicas de Oklahoma City (OKCPS) han nombrado nueve finalistas para Maestro del Año.
Los finalistas para el año escolar 2017-2018 son:

• Joanna Eldridge, Escuela Primaria Edgemere, Prekínder a 6to – Educación Especial
• Dr. Doretha Guion-Colbert, Escuela Primaria F.D. Moon, 4to Grado
• Jamie Hinds, Escuela Secundaria Webster, 7mo y 8vo Grado – Inglés como Segundo Idioma
• Kyla Kaufman, Bodine Elementary School, Instructor de Artes Visuales
• Jami Keys, Coolidge Elementary School, 1er Grado – Educación Especial
• Cara Viviani, Sequoyah Elementary School, Prekínder

Los finalistas serán reconocidos en la celebración de las Estrellas de la Educación, evento que tendrá lugar el 1ero de mayo en el Historic Farmers Public Market, ubicado en 311 S Klein en Oklahoma City. El proceso de selección comenzó el otoño pasado cuando cada escuela seleccionó un candidato para Maestro del Año. A continuación, cada candidato tuvo que completar un paquete de nominación para ser considerado como finalista. Todos los candidatos fueron evaluados anónimamente por un comité compuesto por educadores y administradores de las Escuelas Públicas de la Ciudad de Oklahoma, quienes seleccionaron a los nueve finalistas de Maestro del Año de OKCPS a través de criterios de calificación específicos. Ahora que se han identificado los nueve finalistas, el comité de selección revisará un video de ellos interactuando en su aula y también realizará entrevistas personales para determinar quién será reconocido como el maestro del año de OKCPS el 1ero de mayo. El maestro ganador del año 2017-2018 servirá como el candidato del distrito escolar para el concurso maestro del año del estado de Oklahoma.
La Fundación organiza la ceremonia de Estrellas de la Educación cada primavera para celebrar a los maestros y logros sobresalientes en todo el distrito. Además del maestro del año de OKCPS, también se otorgarán premios en efectivo a los ganadores de las categorías personal de apoyo del año y al voluntario del año. También habrá premios en tres categorías para nombrar a los Socios Comunitarios del Año. Por primera vez, OKCPS agregará el Premio Sam y Charolet Shirley de Director Sobresaliente para reconocer a dos directores destacados por su ardua labor, uno de una Escuela Primaria y otro de una Escuela Secundaria o Preparatoria.
Los Maestros del Año de OKCPS ha sido nombrados Maestra del Año del estado de Oklahoma tres veces desde el año 2000: Talita DeNegri en 2001, Robyn Hilger en 2006 y Heather Sparks en 2009. La Maestra del año de OKCPS de 2016-2017, Madison Wingate, fue nombrada Estrella en ascenso por el Departamento de Educación del Estado de Oklahoma en la competencia estatal.

NINE FINALISTS NAMED FOR OKCPS TEACHER OF THE YEAR

OKLAHOMA CITY . - The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools and Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) have named the nine finalists for OKCPS Teacher of the Year.
The 2017-2018 finalists are:

• Dwight Cunkle, Horace Mann Elementary School, Elementary Vocal Music
• Joanna Eldridge, Edgemere Elementary School, Pre-K – 6th Special Education
• Dr. Doretha Guion-Colbert, F.D. Moon Academy, 4th Grade
• Jamie Hinds, Webster Middle School, 7Th & 8th Grade English Language Development
• Kyla Kaufman, Bodine Elementary School, Visual Arts Instructor
• Jami Keys, Coolidge Elementary School, special education, 1st Grade
• Cara Viviani, Sequoyah Elementary School, Pre-K

The finalists will be recognized at the Stars of Education celebration, which will take place on May 1st at the Historic Farmers Public Market, located at 311 S Klein in Oklahoma City. During the ceremony, finalists will receive a combined total of more than $7,000 in cash awards from The Foundation for OKCPS, and the district Teacher of the Year will be announced.
“Stars of Education is one of my favorite nights of the year,” said Foundation President Mary Mélon. “Our teachers play such a crucial role in the lives of our students. Their dedication and commitment to providing each child in OKCPS with the rich educational experience they deserve is worth celebrating.”
The selection process began last fall when each school site selected a Teacher of the Year candidate. Following, each site Teacher of the Year had to complete a nomination packet to be considered as a finalist. All candidates were anonymously evaluated by a committee comprised of Oklahoma City Public Schools educators and administrators, who selected the nine OKCPS Teacher of the Year finalists through specified rating criteria. Now that the nine finalists have been identified, the selection committee will review video of them in their classroom setting and will also conduct personal interviews to determine who will be recognized as OKCPS Teacher of the Year on May 1st. The winning 2017-2018 OKCPS Teacher of the Year will then serve as the district's candidate for Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year.
The Foundation hosts the Stars of Education ceremony each spring to celebrate teachers and outstanding achievement throughout the district. In addition to OKCPS Teacher of the Year, cash awards will also be presented to honorees for Support Staff and Valuable Volunteer, as well as for three categories of Community Partner of the Year awards. New this year, OKCPS will add the Sam and Charolet Shirley Outstanding Principal Awards to recognize two outstanding Principals, one from an Elementary School and one from a Middle or High School.
The OKCPS Teacher of the Year has been named Oklahoma Teacher of the Year three times since 2000 – Talita DeNegri in 2001, Robyn Hilger in 2006 and Heather Sparks in 2009. Last year’s OKCPS Teacher of the Year, Madison Wingate, was named a Rising Star by the Oklahoma State Department of Education in the state competition.
