Oklahoma History Center Joins Smithsonian Magazine’s Annual Museum Day

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma History Center (OHC) will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, September 18, 2021, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s annual Museum Day. On this day only, participating museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, D.C.-based facilities—which offer free admission everyday—and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day ticket.

Museum Day represents a nationwide commitment to boundless curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge wherever you are. This year’s theme, “Experience America,” sums up the Smithsonian’s mission for the 2021 event. The programs team at Smithsonian Magazine experienced the same restrictions and precautionary steps that we all took during the rise of the pandemic. As those constraints began to ease, the team began to see and feel a resurgence in attending public events and travel. Smithsonian recognizes the extraordinary power of museums and other cultural institutions, like the OHC, to provide visitors with insight and inspiration.

Visitors who present the Museum Day ticket at participating museums will gain free entrance for two for one day only. One ticket per email address is permitted. For more information about Museum Day and a full list of participating museums and cultural institutions, or to download your ticket, please visit www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/search. To obtain your ticket for free admission to the OHC, type “Oklahoma History Center” into the search box and click “Find Museum.”

The Oklahoma History Center is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, National Archives and is an accredited member of the American Association of Museums. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state. Through its research archives, exhibits, educational programs and publications the OHS chronicles the rich history of Oklahoma. For more information about the OHS, please visit www.okhistory.org.
