Permiso de conducir agrícola firmado en ley

El representante Carl Newton, republicano de Cherokee, agradeció esta semana al gobernador por promulgar un proyecto de ley que permitirá a los adolescentes de hasta 14 años de edad que viven o trabajan en una granja familiar ser elegibles para un permiso de conducir para ir directamente a o desde casa, trabajo o escuela.

El Proyecto de Ley 1962 de la Cámara de Representantes entra en vigencia el 1 de noviembre, lo que le dará tiempo al Servicio de Oklahoma para preparar el nuevo permiso.

"Aquellos que dirigen granjas familiares trabajan desde el amanecer hasta el anochecer para cultivar alimentos y otros cultivos para mantener a las familias en todo el país", dijo Newton. "Permitir que estos adolescentes responsables sean una parte más efectiva para satisfacer las necesidades en la granja mediante el uso de sus habilidades de conducción en el trabajo alrededor de la granja o conducir a la escuela será un gran beneficio para las granjas familiares. Ya he escuchado de varios constituyentes que esto les ayudará enormemente, y estoy muy contento de poder ofrecerles este beneficio adicional".

El senador Darcy Jech, republicano de Kingfisher, fue el principal autor del proyecto de ley en el Senado.

"Muchos niños de comunidades rurales comienzan a trabajar en su granja familiar a una edad muy temprana", dijo Jech. "Para cuando son adolescentes, están bien versados en prácticas agrícolas y listos para asumir roles más importantes en la operación. Los permisos y licencias agrícolas disponibles bajo el Proyecto de Ley de la Cámara de Representantes 1962 ayudarán a estos adolescentes en su trabajo en sus propias granjas y ranchos, así como también les facilitarán el trabajo en otras operaciones locales. Me gustaría extender mi agradecimiento al Representante Newton por su trabajo en esta legislación, así como al Gobernador Stitt apoyando a los jóvenes agricultores y empresarios de nuestro estado al promulgarla".

Newton señaló que el estado vecino de Kansas ha tenido esta legislación vigente durante más de 60 años y la ha encontrado beneficiosa.

Newton también emitió el recordatorio a los adolescentes de que este es un permiso especial para ayudar a sus familias de agricultores. Es un privilegio que viene con responsabilidad. Los solicitantes deben pasar todos los requisitos de manejo como cualquier otro conductor con licencia. La medida también especifica restricciones para los adolescentes que operan un vehículo motorizado mientras poseen un permiso agrícola, así como sanciones para aquellos que violan los términos de la nueva ley, incluida la posible revocación de sus privilegios de conducir.

Farm Driving Permit Signed into Law

OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Carl Newton, R-Cherokee, this week thanked the governor for signing into law a bill that will allow teens as young as 14 years old who live or work on a family farm to be eligible for a driving permit to go directly to or from home, work or school.

House Bill 1962 becomes effective Nov. 1, which will allow Service Oklahoma time to prepare the new permit.

"Those who run family farms work from dawn to dusk to raise food and other crops to provide for families across the nation," Newton said. "Allowing these responsible teens to be a more effective part in meeting the needs on the farm by using their driving skills in work around the farm or driving to school will be a major benefit for family farms. I've already heard from a number of constituents that this will help them tremendously, and I'm very pleased to be able to offer them this added benefit."  

Sen. Darcy Jech, R-Kingfisher, was the principal Senate author of the bill.

“Many children from rural communities begin working on their family farm at a very young age," Jech said. "By the time they are teenagers, they are well-versed in agricultural practices and ready to take on larger roles on the operation. The farm permits and licenses available under House Bill 1962 will aid these teens in their work on their own farms and ranches, as well as make it easier for them to work at other local operations. I’d like to extend my appreciation to Representative Newton for his work on this legislation, as well as Governor Stitt supporting our state’s young agriculturists and entrepreneurs by signing it into law."

Newton pointed out the neighboring state of Kansas has had this legislation in place for over 60 years and has found it beneficial.

Newton also issued the reminder to teens that this is a special permit to help their farm families. It is a privilege that comes with responsibility. Applicants must pass all driving requirements as any other licensed driver.  The measure also specifies restrictions for teens operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a farm permit as well as penalties for those who violate the terms of the new law, including the potential revocation of their driving privileges.
