Reconocimiento Especial a la Dra. Carmen Romo "MAMA DEL AÑO"
La Dra. Carmen Romo nació en Ecuador. Se graduó como médica en la Universidad Estatal de Cuenca y, posteriormente, completó su formación en Medicina Interna y Hematología, obtuvo un diplomado en Medicina Transfusional. Entre los hitos de su carrera médica en Ecuador se destacan su labor como directora del Banco de Sangre de la Cruz Roja y Medica Tratante de SOLCA en Machala.
En 2002, la Dra. Romo llegó a la ciudad de Oklahoma y comenzó su vinculación con el INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center, inicialmente como voluntaria antes de unirse al equipo de la Iniciativa Hispana.
Durante su tiempo en INTEGRIS Health, ocupó múltiples cargos, entre ellos: coordinadora de marketing, donde operó la Línea de Salud Hispana; educadora de salud comunitaria, supervisora y gerente; directora de la Iniciativa Hispana; y gerente de Alcance Hispano de Beneficio Comunitario hasta su retiro de la Institución en diciembre 2025.
A lo largo de sus años en INTEGRIS, desarrolló sólidas alianzas y gestionó diversos programas, incluyendo grupos de apoyo para el cáncer, clases de educación sobre la diabetes, programas de manejo de enfermedades crónicas y múltiples ferias de salud en todo Oklahoma. También fue responsable de organizar clínicas móviles y se desempeñó como gerente de la Clínica Comunitaria OLIVET - INTEGRIS.
Ha recibido varias distinciones y reconocimientos en el estado de Oklahoma por sus servicios en favor de la comunidad hispana.
En su tiempo libre, escribe artículos de salud y suele participar como ponente en clases y conferencias. En la actualidad pertenece a varias organizaciones comunitarias de servicio social y ofrece consultoría en salud pública.
La Dra. Romo vive en OKC con su familia.
