UNA REALIDAD
OKLAHOMA CITY .- Esta semana el gobernador Kevin Stitt anunció que un consulado mexicano está programado para abrir en Oklahoma City la próxima primavera. El Consulado de México proporcionará servicios consulares y asistencia a la creciente comunidad mexicana en el estado, al tiempo que promoverá las relaciones económicas, comerciales, educativas, culturales, turísticas y de asuntos comunitarios entre las entidades mexicanas y las partes interesadas de Oklahoma. “El gobernador Stitt ha estado abogando por la apertura de este consulado y visitó México el año pasado para presentar esta propuesta al Gobierno de México. Durante los últimos dos años, el gobernador ha trabajado para abrazar y abordar las necesidades de la comunidad latina y el anuncio de esta semana sirve como testimonio de la longevidad de ese compromiso” menciono Kate Vasper, secretaria de prensa de la oficina del Governador Kevin Stitt.
"A medida que la comunidad mexicana de Oklahoma crece, me alegra que estos residentes de Oklahoma puedan obtener los servicios que necesitan aquí en nuestro estado, en lugar de conducir horas a través de las fronteras estatales para obtener papeleo simple", dijo el gobernador Stitt. "Estoy agradecido por la colaboración y la visión compartida entre Oklahoma y México que hizo de esto una realidad".
La Cónsul Edurne Pineda ha sido nombrada Cónsul Principal del cónsul. El Cónsul Pineda es un diplomático de carrera mexicano con especialización en asuntos consulares y una larga trayectoria en este campo. Ella ha estado trabajando en la apertura del Consulado con la expectativa de inaugurar su operación con servicios completos para fines de la primavera de 2023.
"Ha sido un honor trabajar con el gobernador Stitt para establecer el Consulado de México en Oklahoma City", dijo la cónsul Edurne Pineda. "Estoy segura de que seremos grandes socios para forjar un mejor desarrollo para la comunidad mexicana en el estado y una relación más profunda y fuerte entre México y Oklahoma".
El Consulado de México fue llevado a Oklahoma debido a los esfuerzos del presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador y el Secretario de Relaciones Exteriores Marcelo Ebrard, junto con la aprobación del gobierno federal. El alcalde David Holt, así como los líderes de la comunidad mexicana también han manifestado consistentemente la necesidad de tener esta representación consular en Oklahoma.
"Este es un gran anuncio para la gente de Oklahoma City", dijo el alcalde David Holt. "Hay una gran población de mexicoamericanos en nuestro estado, con más de 100,000 solo en Oklahoma City. El acceso a estos servicios es importante, y felicito a los líderes de nuestra comunidad mexicoamericana que han abogado por esta instalación durante muchos años".
Roy Williams, presidente y director ejecutivo de la Cámara de Comercio de Oklahoma City, dijo que el Consulado también es importante para la comunidad empresarial y agregó: "México es un socio comercial importante para nuestro estado y la presencia de estas oficinas aquí apoyará el crecimiento continuo".
Se remarco que mientras el Consulado de México en Oklahoma City abre sus operaciones, los Consulados de México en Little Rock y Kansas continuarán brindando servicios consulares a la comunidad mexicana de Oklahoma.
