¿A qué edad nos ponemos viejos?
Una jovencita de 18 años dirá: “Las mujeres se ponen viejas en los 40”.
Si le preguntas a una persona de 40 años responderá: “A los 60 comienza la vejez”. Y si le preguntas a mi tía de 82 años, quien vive en un hogar de ancianos seguramente dirá: “pregúntale a la manada de vejestorios que viven aquí porque yo todavía no he llegado a la vejez”.
Me puse a la tarea de preguntar, investigar y “gugolear” a qué edad alguien es oficialmente fichado como “viejo”. Por ningún lado encontré una edad que sea universalmente aceptada como el comienzo de la vejez. Solo encontré que algunos consideran que a los 65 años es un símbolo de vejez ya que es cuando muchos se jubilan. Pero cuéntale esa ideología al famoso guapetón cantante Sting y seguramente se reirá porqué a sus 67 años esta demasiado ocupado con una gira mundial de conciertos.
Entonces, ¿Cuál es el secreto de los “traga años”? Todas las personas que se sienten y ven jóvenes, sin importar su edad, tienen algo en común y es que mantienen su mente ocupada y sus cuerpos activos. Nunca conocerás a alguien con iniciativa y emprendedor diciendo; “Yo estoy viejo”, ¡aunque tenga 100 años!
Nada nos mantiene mas jóvenes que aprender cosas nuevas y seguir adelante. Es ley natural que todo lo que no se mueve muere, porque el movimiento es vida. Si dejas el auto estacionado por mucho tiempo se le agota la batería, si una casa está inhabitada por un largo período, se llena de telarañas y si una persona no se mantiene activa mental y físicamente, ¡se entumece y se pone vieja!
La clave del antienvejecimiento es siempre preguntarse a sí mismo: ¿Qué es lo próximo para mi? Puedes tener 80 años y te garantizo que siempre habrá un nuevo proyecto, pasatiempo, viaje, sueño o reto que emprender. Quienes continúan reinventándose y siempre están en la búsqueda de crear, aprender, desarrollar y disfrutar cosas nuevas, nunca envejecen porque esa es la verdadera fuente de la juventud.
