VUELA EN EL HISTÓRICO 

AVIÓN TRIMOTOR FORD DE 1928

Recuerda la energía, la pasión y la emoción de los rugientes años 20 volando a bordo del Ford Tri-Motor.  Conocido como el primer avión de pasajeros de lujo, el Ford Tri-Motor redefinió los viajes mundiales y marcó el comienzo de los vuelos comerciales. Los capítulos de EAA del área de Oklahoma City volverán a albergar este histórico avión del 14 al 17 de abril de 2022 en el aeropuerto de Sundance, 13000 N.  Sara Road, Yukón. 

Liberty Aviation Museum'S 1928 Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT-B, serie No. 8, voló su primer vuelo el 1 de diciembre de 1928.  Fue vendido a Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT, el logotipo que adorna el fuselaje del avión hoy en día) en enero de 1929, donde se convirtió en NC9645 y fue nombrado Ciudad de Wichita.  Inauguró el servicio aéreo comercial transcontinental en dirección oeste el 7 de julio de 1929, con el barco gemelo City of Columbus. 

En abril de 1931, la propiedad del avión fue transferida a Transcontinental and Western Air (TWA).  Aquí el avión ayudó en el desarrollo del sistema de rutas de TWA.  Apodado el Ganso de Hojalata, después de varios cambios en la propiedad, fue dañado en un accidente en enero de 1954.  It se  puso en almacenamiento.  Comprado por William F. Harrah de Nevada (Harrah's Hotel & Casino) en julio de 1964, fue restaurado al estado de vuelo donde voló hasta 1971, cuando fue retirado al museo del automóvil de Harrah.

En 2014, el avión fue adquirido por Ed Patrick y el Liberty Aviation Museum en Port Clinton, Ohio. Los voluntarios transportaron el avión a través del país a su nuevo hogar.  Después de un mantenimiento adicional para garantizar que el avión estuviera listo para el viaje, Liberty firmó un acuerdo de arrendamiento con EAA, trabajando juntos para mostrar el avión histórico en todo el país.

928 FORD TRI-MOTOR PLANE

Recall the energy, passion, and excitement of the Roaring ’20s by flying aboard the Ford Tri-Motor.  Known as the first luxury airliner, the Ford Tri-Motor redefined world travel and marked the beginning of commercial flight. Oklahoma City area EAA chapters will once again host this historic airplane April 14-17, 2022, at Sundance Airport, 13000 N. Sara Road, Yukon. 

Liberty Aviation Museum’S 1928 Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT-B, serial No. 8, flew its first flight on December 1, 1928.  It was sold to Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT, the logo that graces the aircraft’s fuselage today) in January 1929 where it became NC9645 and was named City of Wichita.  It inaugurated westbound transcontinental commercial air service on July 7, 1929, with sister ship City of Columbus. 

In April 1931, ownership of the aircraft was transferred to Transcontinental and Western Air (TWA).  Here the aircraft helped in the development of TWA’s route system.  Nicknamed the Tin Goose, after several changes in ownership, it was damaged in an accident in January 1954.  It was then put into storage.  Bought by Nevada’s William F. Harrah (Harrah’s Hotel & Casino) in July 1964, it was restored to flight status where it flew until 1971 when it was retired to Harrah’s automobile museum.

In 2014, the aircraft was acquired by Ed Patrick and the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, Ohio. Volunteers ferried the aircraft across the country to its new home.  After further maintenance to ensure the aircraft was tour-ready, Liberty entered into a lease agreement with EAA, working together to showcase the historic aircraft around the country.
