El Grupo Volkswagen planea gastar al menos $7.1 mil millones de dólares en América del Norte hasta el 2027, para aumentar su capacidad de producción local de vehículos eléctricos.
En esta inversión está incluida la construcción de una planta de baterías, así como las revisiones de sus plantas de ensamblaje en Puebla y Silao, México, y reforzar el ICE provisional. -producción impulsada como parte de un impulso para regionalizar sus decisiones de productos EV e ICE para el mercado norteamericano.
La compañía tiene como objetivo introducir más de 25 nuevos vehículos eléctricos con batería hasta el 2030 en las marcas del grupo que se venden en los EE. UU.: VW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley y Lamborghini.
Pero lo que es más importante, también planea localizar todas las principales responsabilidades de diseño e ingeniería, para el desarrollo de vehículos eléctricos de alto nivel para los consumidores norteamericanos para el 2030, una medida que, en teoría, podría permitir que VW produzca una camioneta EV de tamaño mediano para los consumidores de América del Norte, así como otros productos para el área.
Scott Keogh, director ejecutivo de Volkswagen Group. de América, dijo en un comunicado:
El Grupo Volkswagen tiene como objetivo impulsar productos que permitan a la marca Volkswagen capturar el 55 por ciento de sus ventas anuales como EV para el 2030.
Gran parte de su futura línea de productos EV ya se conoce: el crossover compacto ID4, que comenzará la producción local en el complejo de ensamblaje de Chattanooga de VW. en la segunda mitad del 2022; la minivan ID Buzz, que se importará de Europa a partir del 2024; un sedán EV de largo alcance, llamado ID Aero, en el 2025, y versiones EV de; Atlas y Atlas Cross Sport a partir del 2026.
El VW ID.4 entrará en producción en Tennessee en el 2022, principalmente de proveedores regionales. Para mediados de la década, VW también planea mejorar sus plantas en Puebla y Silao, México, para el ensamblaje de vehículos y componentes eléctricos (como motores eléctricos).
El Grupo Volkswagen comenzará a eliminar gradualmente sus ventas de vehículos con motor ICE en América del Norte, después del cambio de década, dijo Keogh..
