NATIONAL DOG DAY EVENT TO CELEBRATE DOWN SYNDROME

NATIONAL DOG DAY EVENT TO CELEBRATE DOWN SYNDROME

Oklahoma City, OK – The Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) is hosting an event to celebrate National Dog Day on Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon. All dog lovers and their furry companions are invited to attend and receive a free dog treat at two of the Not Your Average Joe (NYAJ) locations, Midtown, 1227 N. Walker, Oklahoma City, and Norman, 1001 Elm Ave., Norman. This event is to kick-off DSACO’s annual fundraising event, the Down Syndrome Festival and 5K.

The free public event will take place at NYAJ - Midtown and Norman locations and attendees can expect a morning filled with activities, treats, and opportunities to support a great cause. The event aims to foster a spirit of inclusivity while celebrating the special bond between humans and their canine companions.

"We are delighted to collaborate with Not Your Average Joe to create a fun-filled event that brings the community together to celebrate our furry friends and support the upcoming Down Syndrome Festival and 5K," said Sarah Soell, Executive Director, DSACO. "We encourage all dog owners, families, and friends to come out and be part of this celebration."

Participants are encouraged to bring their dogs to enjoy a day of treats and activities. There will be ample space for furry friends to run, jump, and make new doggie pals. For dogs in attendance, complimentary dog treats will be provided, ensuring that our four-legged guests have a tail-wagging good time. The human companions may purchase a refreshing ‘Cup of Joe’ or other beverage of choice, which is prepared by one of the self-advocates working at any of the two NYAJ locations. The event will serve as the official kick-off for the upcoming Down Syndrome Festival and 5K, scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2023, an annual event which raises awareness and funds to support individuals with Down syndrome and their families. The Festival will be held at the Myriad Botanical Gardens. The 5K and fun run starts at 8 a.m., followed by the awareness walk at 9:45 a.m. At 10 a.m. the Myriad grounds will open for the festival activities.

Donations to support DSACO’s initiatives are greatly appreciated. “Help us make National Dog Day a barking success while setting the stage for an incredible Down Syndrome Festival and 5K,” said Soell.
