Men’s Soccer off to Best Start Since 2012 as MACU Blanks SNU 2-0

BETHANY, Okla. – The Mid-America Christian University men’s soccer team entered their game on Tuesday night looking to begin the season 3-0 for the first time in six years, and on the field, MACU earned the result they needed to accomplish that feat.
MACU (3-0) tallied twice in the first half, and they held on despite playing more than half the match a man down, defeating Southern Nazarene University (0-2-1) 2-0.
MACU came out of the gates buzzing, as the Evangels created chance after chance in the early going. In the 15th minute, Andy Ochoa broke the ice, lofting a shot into the upper right corner of the goal behind SNU goalkeeper Jeff Ray. MACU’s Dominik Tajak, who notched the assist on the first goal, scored his fourth tally of the season off a feed from Oliver May in the 28th minute when he fired the ball through the hands of Ray and into the low right corner of the net to double the MACU lead.
MACU saw a player sent off in the 39th minute, but that did not slow the MACU attack in the second half. Tajak put a shot on the frame in the 49th minute that resulted in a corner kick, but SNU managed to stifle the chance and turn the momentum. Jakob O’Meara-Gill had to be sharp in the second half, making five of his six saves on his way to his second clean sheet of the season.
O’Meara-Gill (3-0) earned the win in goal, raising his Save Percentage to .889, and lowering his Goals Against Average to 0.33. Ray (0-2-1) took the loss in goal for SNU, despite making eight saves in the match.
MACU will be back on the road on Saturday in Dallas, Texas, when they take on the Tigers of Paul Quinn College (1-1). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
