United We Dream Announces Official Launch of App for Families at Risk of Deportation

"Notifica is ready for download by immigrants and allies fighting back against Trump’s deportation machine"

Oklahoma City–United We Dream-Dream Action OK is proud to officially announce the launch of "Notifica", a mobile application for smart phones aimed to assist immigrant families who come in contact with immigration agents. With the push of a button, it connects users with their relatives, lawyers and support networks in a fast and secure manner. Notifica will serve as a key tool for United We Dream’s deportation defense team as they support organized immigrant families under an increasing threat under Trump’s mass detention and deportation agenda.
With Congress’ failure to pass a Dream Act, their increase of funds for ICE and CBP in the spending bill, Trump’s decision to end DACA last September (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), and TPS (Temporary Protected Status) for multiple countries, the number of families at risk of deportation keeps growing at alarming levels. During Trump’s first year in office, there was a 43% increase in arrests by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
Notifica’s launch is part of the “Know your Power” campaign, an effort led by immigrant youth at United We Dream to organize and equip immigrant communities with the necessary tools to fight against the growing deportation machine that Donald Trump’s administration is building with the support of the Republican controlled Congress. How does Notifica work?
? People can download Notifica from an app store
? They register for an account by creating a unique PIN
? Messages can be created and stored for contacts including attorneys, family members, and community organizers
? Notifica also provides users with critical information about ways to know and defend their rights, courtesy of United We Dream
? The app gives access to the United We Dream Network by encouraging people to call our MigraWatch Hotline and connect with a local organizing teams.
Cynthia Garcia, Deportation Defense Director of Dream Action Oklahoma, said:
“We believe the Notifica app will play a critical role in any interaction with law enforcement, not just immigration officers. This is important in Oklahoma where individuals cannot distinguish between a local traffic stop and an encounter with ICE since they often end up in the same result of detention and deportation.”
Serena Prammanasudh, Executive Director of Dream Action Oklahoma, said:
“This app, together with the Know Your Power initiatives, will begin to break the culture of fear in our state. Moreover, it will create a domino effect of community organizing which youth will not only employ to protect themselves, their families and neighbors, but also to begin dismantling the systems that target communities of color—which in our state is the new proposed ICE facility in the metro area of Oklahoma City.”
The Notifica app, owned by United We Dream, is available for download now. Search for “Notifica Immigrants” on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Established in 2009, Dream Act Oklahoma is a 100% volunteer-run, community-based organization that aims to empower the local immigrant community through advocacy and education to ensure justice for all immigrants.
