OCCC COMMENCEMENT TO BE HELD VIRTUALLY
OKLAHOMA CITY– Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) will stream its first ever virtual commencement ceremony on June 12 at 7:30 p.m. The virtual commencement was pre-recorded and edited to avoid mishaps and interruptions that faced other colleges who moved ceremonies online amid COVID-19. Students, families and all other interested parties can view the ceremony on or anytime after the release date and time, at www.occcgrads.com.
“Our graduates have worked hard for this moment,” said OCCC President Jerry Steward. “Most of our students balance school, work and family commitments, and we were determined to find a way to honor and celebrate them as they close out their time at OCCC.”
In advance of the virtual commencement, over 300 OCCC graduates and their families visited campus for the College’s first Grad & Go event, where they were able to pick up their diploma covers, caps, gowns, and have a professional photo taken. It was an unconventional way to commemorate a significant occasion, but one that students appreciated and that shone some light in a dark time.
“This is my first graduation – I’m really excited,” said Macy Conaway, an OCCC graduate who was homeschooled. “I started at a different school but it wasn’t a good fit for me. I worked full-time and was a commuter. I researched my options and was so happy to have found this program. I’ve had such a good experience.”
