El secretario de Marina, Carlos Del Toro, traerá a la rama de servicio un amplio perfil tecnológico con 17 años como CEO de SBG Technology Solutions, que proporciona modernización de IT, gobernanza, ciberseguridad y tecnología de AI al gobierno federal.

Nacido en La Habana, Cuba, Carlos Del Toro emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1962. Criado en el distrito Hell's kitchen de la ciudad de Nueva York, asistió a las escuelas públicas de la ciudad de Nueva York y más tarde recibió un nombramiento para la Academia Naval de los Estados Unidos en Annapolis, donde obtuvo una Licenciatura en Ciencias en Ingeniería Eléctrica en 1983.

En 1998, fue seleccionado para el Comando en el Mar y asignado como comandante comisionado del USS BULKELEY DDG 84, entonces el destructor más nuevo de la nación. Fue el primer oficial naval hispanoamericano que sirvió como el primer capitán de un crucero o destructor con capacidad Aegis. 

Como oficial naval a lo largo de numerosos viajes de servicio en el mar, sirvió a bordo de una fragata, dos destructores, un crucero y un portaaviones desplegándose numerosas veces en el Mediterráneo y el Mar Negro durante la Guerra Fría, en el Pacífico y en el Golfo Pérsico tres veces durante la Operación Desert Shield and Storm.

Hoy en día, Carlos Del Toro es CEO y Presidente de SBG Technology Solutions, una compañía de servicios de ingeniería y IT de rápido crecimiento que fundó en 2004. En 2010, fue reconocido por la Administración de Pequeñas Empresas como la Persona de Pequeñas Empresas del Año en la Región III (DC/VA/MD). Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro, is set to bring to the service branch an extensive technology profile from 17 years as CEO of SBG Technology Solutions, which provides IT modernization, governance, cybersecurity, and AI tech to the Federal government.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Carlos Del Toro immigrated to the United States in 1962. Raised in the Hell’s Kitchen district of New York City, he attended New York City public schools and later received an appointment to the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in1983.

In 1998, he was selected for Command at Sea and assigned as the Commissioning Commanding Officer of the USS BULKELEY DDG 84, then the nation’s newest destroyer. He was the first Hispanic American Naval Officer to have ever served as the first Captain of an Aegis capable cruiser or destroyer. While in Command, he steered the ship from christening, through its maiden voyage to commissioning and sea trials to its first deployment. In 2004 he was selected both for the rank of Captain and Major Command at Sea.

As a naval officer throughout numerous tours of duty at sea, he served aboard a frigate, two destroyers, a cruiser, and an aircraft carrier deploying numerous times to the Mediterranean and Black Seas during the Cold War, to the Pacific, and to the Persian Gulf three times during Operation Desert Shield and Storm. 

His shore assignments in the Navy included tours as a program manager with Naval Warfare Information Systems Command and the National Reconnaissance Office; as a student at the Naval Postgraduate School, the Naval War College, and the George Washington University; as Director of Training for the Aegis Training and Readiness Center; as a White House Fellow to Jack Lew and Sylvia Mathews Burwell at the Office of Management & Budget in the Executive Office of the President, and as the Senior Military Assistant to the Director of Defense Programs Analysis and Evaluation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Today, Carlos Del Toro is CEO & President of SBG Technology Solutions, a rapidly growing Engineering and IT Services Company that he founded in 2004. In 2010, he was recognized by the Small Business Administration as the Small Business Person of the Year in Region III (DC/VA/MD). SBG was most recently recognized as an SBA Success Story for 2020.
