The 7th Annual OKCine Film Festival at Historic Capitol Hill

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, “In celebration of Latino film, Calle Dos Cinco in Historic Capitol Hill is honored to continue our tradition of bringing the Annual OKCine Film Festival to Oklahoma’s flourishing film community!” said Gloria Torres -Executive Director-Calle Dos Cinco in Historic Capitol Hill.

“The 7th Annual OKCine Film Festival offers the opportunity to promote diversity within the Oklahoma Arts Community by cultivating the creativity of local Latino talent, inspiring innovative influencers, fueling the future of film, building authentic bilingual narratives, curating the coverage of our stories and creating the capacity for collaboration” said Torres.

Honoring McDaniel - OK Cine Latino Film Festival is honoring Oklahoma filmmaker Lance McDaniel with its first ever Festival Padrino Award.   The Festival Padrino Award celebrates an endeared godfather and caring mentor who has made a deep impact on the OKCine Latino Film Festival, Latino student filmmakers, and the Oklahoma Latino Film Community. McDaniel played a significant role in organizing the inaugural festival, which lead to an education program for students that has grown into the OKCine Latino Film Institute.

Lance McDaniel is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker who has worked on 21 feature films, including Oscar winner, Million Dollar Baby. He has directed and produced five narrative features, two documentaries, four shorts, and a Virtual Reality film.

McDaniel has written a weekly film column for eight years. He has served on the Board of Directors for Leadership Oklahoma, Creative Oklahoma, Downtown Rotary Club 29, Rodeo Cinema, and SixTwelve in the Paseo. And, from 2010-2020, McDaniel managed Oklahoma’s largest film festival as Executive Director of deadCenter Film, which was selected as Oklahoma’s Outstanding Arts & Cultural Nonprofit under his leadership.

“It is incredible what Tango Public Relations, Rogelio Almeida, Gloria Torres, and the entire team at OKCine Latino have created from that initial spark,” according to McDaniel. “Their film institute now trains, prepares, and connects young Latino filmmakers with jobs in the booming Oklahoma film industry. And, their annual film festival provides a respected platform for filmmakers across Oklahoma and Latin America to share their stories and connect their communities through art.”

Now in it’s 7th year, OKCine Latino Film Festival is a program of Calle Dos Cinco in Historic Capitol Hill that promotes the Latino Cultural impact on cinema in the United States, focusing on a unique mix of filmmakers, artists, film lovers and history at the heart of the Hispanic Community.

This year’s festival will include 10 feature films and 40 short films from around the world, including Intermitente, Open Up and Finding Carlos, a hip hop holiday movie directed by honoree Lance McDaniel, featuring Mexican Folkloric dancers.
