Students receive scholarships and awards at Metro Tech


OKLAHOMA CITY – Students received $15,000 in scholarship and awards from the Metro Tech Foundation during at the 12th annual Sowing the Seeds of Success banquet. Students, donors and guests celebrated during an in-person dinner at the Oklahoma History Center. Virtual attendance was also available for a  live streaming experience.

 

Metro Tech’s Foundation Board Chair Jennifer Barker said, “The board was beyond excited to be able to award $15,000 in scholarships at the banquet this year. We are thankful to be able to continue our work supporting students through the pandemic and we are looking forward to what the future holds for them.” 

 

Metro Tech’s Superintendent and CEO Aaron Collins stated, “Our students benefit when they can focus on their studies instead of a financial emergency. We are just so grateful to supportive faculty, staff and community partners who donate generously to the Foundation.’

 

Scholarship recipients are:

Evelyn Segura-Morales, Law Enforcement/Public Safety Academy – James D. Branscum “Character First” Scholarship;

Sarah Kennett, Surgical Technology program – Dr. Donna Neal Thomas Scholarship;

Aiden Ford, Pre-Engineering Academy – Mark Vincent Memorial Scholarship;

Abidat Olaniyan, Pre-Engineering Academy – Dr. Dennis L. Portis, III Scholarship;

Jordan Jones, Cosmetology program – Dye Family Scholarship;

Carson Veal, Pre-Engineering Academy – Dye Family Scholarship;

Gerardo Guerrero, Structural Welding program – Ron Huff “Master Welder” Scholarship

 

An additional 11 students received $7,500 in cash awards at the May 11 and 12 Metro Tech Graduation Ceremonies for being selected “Site Director Student of the Year.”

The banquet raised $30,000 from generous donors and sponsors. It provides emergency assistance to students experiencing financial hardships, costs associated with industry certifications and annual scholarships and other awards.
